It started at 4:30 am, so it was really long.

The plan was to train at 1pm after a light lunch but that didn't work because my car was in the shop. So when 6pm rolled around, again I was tired; and guess who was ready to go? That good ole sister of mine. She encouraged me to go and I did. We did 5 miles today, which was absolutely great.

I prefer morning workouts, so I have to figure out a way to work it in before 8 am.

Pastor Daemon S. You see I had been up all night and finally fell asleep about 4 am.

My sister is running the race with me, so I called her and she said we would walk at 6 pm. Well 6pm turned into 6:30 and 6:30 turned into 7pm. She is like me, she comes up with the best excuses: needing to cook and then she had to run an errand. By 7pm I wasn't in the mood to work out, but she convinced me to do a quick work out.

Everyone knows that it is pitch dark by 7pm so when I post our picture, it will be hard to see us. We only did about 20 minutes of training today. I am hoping for better results tomorrow.

Good night to all.

Pastor Daemon S. They came upona storm. The young lady asked her father what should she do, he said"keep driving". Cars began to pull over to the side, the storm wasgetting worse. What should I do the young lady asked, "keep driving"her father replied. On up a few feet she noticed eighteen wheelers waspulling over also. She told her dad, "I must pull over I can barely seeahead. It is terrible out here everyone is pulling over." Her fathertold her not to give up just keep driving. Now the storm was terriblebut she never stopped driving and soon she could see a little clearer. After a couple of miles she was on dry land and the sun was out. Herfather said, "Now pull over and get out." She said "but why now?" Hesaid "Get out and look back at all the people that gave up and are stillin the storm. You never gave up and now your storm is over."

I thought this was a testimony for anyone who is going through adifficult time. Just because everyone else, even the ones that appear tobe the largest and strongest gives up. You don't have to, because ifyou keep going, on up ahead your storm will soon be over and the sunwill shine upon your face again.

I hope this touched someone because it did me. Pass this on to youron-line friends. Tell them to never give up, because GOD will nevergive up on them. He has the last say so.

You are blessed beyond anything you can ask or imagine. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won't feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It's not just in some of us; it's in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. I never cease to be amazed by our ability to “discover” the obvious.

These are difficult and uncertain times. When we consider the instability of our economy, we are forced to assess our spending habits and make informed financial and life decisions. Many of you have exercised good stewardship and still find yourselves in dire straights. Christians are not exempt from the impact of lay-offs and/or underemployment (employed but significant reduction in income), the credit and mortgage crisis, job market, etc. Although we may not have scene it coming, there is nothing about this economic downturn that caught our omniscient God by surprise.

There is reason for hope; God is not limited by what goes on in the market place. In fact, for those who love the Lord and are called according to his purposes, I believe God will use this economic downturn for our good and His glory. I encourage you to begin asking God for his good, acceptable, and perfect will for your life. Perhaps He desires to do a “new” thing in your family, career, or walk with Him. What better time than now is there to dream again and seek what God wants to do in, for, and through us! Circumstances should never determine our outlook on life; only God’s love and the purposes for which we were born.

Pastor Daemon S. Many of your pursuits have yielded success, but little lasting fulfillment. In fact, once the thrill of your “great” accomplishments wane, the resulting emptiness is often greater. I know the feeling well. I have been on this emotional roller coaster more times than I care to admit. It’s like reading a book or seeing a movie several times and somehow expecting it to end differently. The next conquest will satiate me. The next promotion will quench my thirst. Perhaps when I get married or begin having children this void will finally be filled. On and on it goes.

In this book, you are able to realize your potential in God and live a life of purpose. When God speaks to you, do you allow Him to finish or do you stop Him to build a monument for that particular moment? Even as believers we can end what God is trying to do before it even begins. This is one of many topics covered in Daemon Moss' newest book "THE KINGDOM EDGE - Realizing Your Potential in God" to be released May 31st. This annual three day event provides focused instruction on topics of interest for member churches. My seminar was entitled “What is My Calling?”

In an effort to make my seminars helpful and relevant to attendees, I provide them with an opportunity to submit questions that they would like me to address. One question submitted reflects a common challenge many are faced with as they pursue what God has set before them: “Why is it that those closest to us (family and friends) don’t seem to understand or doubt what we feel called to do?”

I believe loved ones have our best interests at heart when expressing reservations. They want to make sure we have “counted the cost” and are not stepping out on a whim. I always recommend seeking godly counsel and input from those closest to you. Any additional perspective they can provide can be helpful. However, when you know you have heard from God remember that you are seeking advice, not affirmation. Support of family and friends is not a prerequisite for obeying God.

Several years ago, the Lord showed me that those who receive the call hear it by faith. Those who weren’t present at our “burning bush,” must see it by our works. As we walk out what God has instructed us to do, others will see the fruit of our obedience (and eventually benefit from it). Consider the following scripture from Exodus 3:11-12: “And Moses said unto God, Who am I that I should bring forth the children of Israel out of Egypt? And he said, Certainly I will be with thee: and this shall be a token (sign) unto thee, that I have sent thee: When thou hast brought forth the people out of Egypt, ye shall serve God upon this mountain.” I believe there are a couple of things we can derive from this text:

1. We have to be willing to trust God even when we have doubts concerning ourselves [who am I …].
2. God expects us to receive our call as already done [when you have brought forth the children of Israel… (past tense)]
3. God says that bringing them out was Moses’ sign, not the signs and wonders that would accompany the deliverance.

God tells Moses you will know I told you to do it (deliver the children of Israel) when it’s done. Wow! God goes on to say that “hearers” (Pharaoh) would not listen to him, but that God would demonstrate He was with Moses by signs and wonders.

Hearing God’s voice should be sign enough for us. Just as the signs and wonders were witnessed by Pharaoh, the Egyptians, and the children of Israel, we need to know that the fruit of our obedience to the call will be witnessed by those who doubt us initially. In the mean time, step out on the Word from the Lord. In due season, God will affirm you before your friends and family. Unfortunately, in my attempt at brevity, details are omitted and the reader is left to “fill in the blanks.” Such was the case in Monday’s blog on “Mindset for the Workplace.”

2 Timothy 1:7 declares, “God has not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.” If this is so (and this verse clearly states that fact), how can fear be a gift of God? At the very least, a contradiction seems to exist. In order to understand the point I was making (and more importantly, understand what Paul was addressing as he wrote to Timothy), we must differentiate between the spirit of fear and the emotion of fear. The former refers to an individual who walks in fear; this person’s disposition is defined by timidity. The latter represents those who are generally steadfast in their faith, but experience the occasional emotion of fear. When Paul writes to Timothy, he is addressing the spirit of fear.

We can draw a parallel between the joy of the Lord (constant) and the emotion of happiness (fleeting); joy is present irregardless of circumstances, happiness is predicated on favorable circumstances. Based on this premise, when we experience the emotion of fear it serves as an indicator that we have momentarily taken our eyes off of God and his ability to sustain and keep us. In this sense, fear is a gift. Why? Because it enables us to regain God’s prospective and rest in his sovereignty.

I apologize for any angst this posting may have caused. Thank you so much for your responses and please keep your questions and comments coming!

Grace and Peace!

Pastor Daemon S. What the egg is in its infancy contains all that it will be once it matures. The egg is like a seed, what it will be, it already is.

It is not a matter of us becoming a new and improved version of our old self, but there is a complete change. Our new self is in no wise like our former self. Just as the caterpillar can’t grasp life as a butterfly, the butterfly can no longer grasp life as a caterpillar.

When God takes us to a high place, the change is supposed to be so dramatic that we can’t even relate to the former things. That is the kind of change that God wants to take us through.

An excerpt from “The Butterfly”
Pastor Daemon S. One of the questions asked was “What one thing (advice) would you like to tell your classmates after 20 years?” After contemplating a few minutes, the following words came to mind: “Die Empty!”

It has been said “ he who dies with the most toys wins.” I believe the reverse is true. He who dies with nothing left to give wins. Like the Apostle Paul, I too want to “finish my course;” not just begin it. As for goals and aspirations, I want to take every land and conquer every mountain God has set before me. (Joshua 14:7-12) As for my relationships, I want to leave this world with the knowledge that “as much as depended upon me, I lived peaceable with all men” (Romans 12:18). As for my wife, I want her to one day say, “truly – this man loved me as Christ loved the church” (Ephesians 5:25). And for my children and children’s children, I want to leave an inheritance of not only wealth, but more importantly a good name. (Proverbs 13:22 & 22:1)

In short, I want to die empty – with nothing left to give. By God’s design, true success is measured by what a man gives away, not by what to he possesses. If we would take a closer look, the majority of our problems stem from our inability to let go of the things we try desperately to hold on to. Greed, pride, selfishness – all indicators of the “he who dies with the most toys” approach to life. Let’s endeavor to reverse the curse. Die Empty!

Pastor Daemon S. My most difficult times may have originated in the boardroom of hell, but they were permitted in the “throne room” of heaven. Today, I am the sum total of events good, bad, and ugly. Miraculously, in God even the bad and ugly somehow have worked out for my good.

I said all of that to say this; God does have a plan for us. Although we may go through seasons that seem to have no redeeming value, trust that in the midst of it all God is doing a work beneath the surface that in time will yield an increase you never thought possible. During these trying times, we often tell ourselves “this too shall pass.” As true of a statement as that may be, we should not overlook the fact that there is a lesson to be learned prior to the “passing.” It is in that place that the Master Teacher does His greatest work and we experience our greatest amount of growth.

When you find yourself in the midst of your “dark” season, remember what Jesus Christ “The Light” has promised in His Word; on the other side of the “trying of your faith” lies a life that is “perfect and entire, wanting (lacking) nothing.” (James 1:3&4) That’s good news! Only God can take the pain of the present and birth an incredible harvest of joy and peace. Maintaining an eternal perspective on life enables us to make sense of the past, assures us of hope in the present, and gives us faith in the One who holds our future.

Surrounding my house, there are a number of very large trees. I have been told that roots go as deep beneath the ground as the tips of the trees reach the skies. In the same way, I believe that the light that eventually breaks forth in our lives is only as brilliant as the darkest midnight that preceded it.

May our walk only become deeper and richer in Him as we trust God with the various seasons of our lives.

Grace & Peace

Pastor Daemon S. And he awoke out of his sleep, and said, I will go out as at other times before, and shake myself. And he wist not that the Lord was departed from him.” Judges 16:20

Let’s face it; there are some things that we are just good at! You know it; those around you have witnessed it; and admiration and promotion has resulted because of it. When it comes to things God has anointed us to do, not only are we effective and efficient, often it is effortless. However, when assurance turns into arrogance, we stumble and fall.

A closer look at this verse reveals that (1) Samson began to think he was the source of his strength, not God; (2) his faith was in his gift (strength), not in the giver (God); and (3) Samson’s relationship with God grew so cold he didn’t recognize God was no longer with him. How often do we share in God’s glory? When operating in God’s anointing, do we trade serving the Giver with our gifts for the pleasure of enjoying the benefits our gifts bring apart from the Giver? Finally, do we become so engrossed in what we have been called to do, that we neglect the One who called us?

God has made an awesome deposit in each of us. As we exercise our gifts, may we continually bow down to the Giver. Otherwise, it’s just a matter of time before we fall victim to the Samson Syndrome.

Grace and Peace.

Pastor Daemon S. I have been encouraged by your kind words and pray that God will continue to minister to you through this medium. The ITN Leadership Group staff counts it an honor to serve each of you. Now, on to the questions…

Faith verses Presumption
Question: How do you recover when you stepped out on presumption (when in fact you thought you were operating in faith)?

Answer: First and foremost know that this is very common among those who aspire to achieve great things and make a difference. God is so big-even when we miss him, we run into him. In other words, God knew the mistakes we would make along the way and has made provision for us to get back on course. God uses our mistakes to qualify us, not disqualify us. A delay is not a denial. Brush off the dust, get back on the proverbial horse, and start riding again.

Lost in the Tarry
Question: When I started out, I knew I heard from God; now I have my doubts. I think I am lost in the tarry. What should I do?

Answer: I Chronicles 28:20 has been a source of inspiration for me time and time again. God chose Solomon to build the temple; a fact that couldn’t be argued or denied. Yet David finds it necessary to declare unto his son, “Be strong and of good courage, and do it: fear not, nor be dismayed: for the Lord God, even my God, will be with thee; he will not fail thee, nor forsake thee, until thou hast finished all the work for the service of the house of the Lord.” David knew his son would eventually find himself in the position you find yourself in today. It is important that we write the vision down; at times it will be the only thing to keep us during times of confusion and/or delay.

Leadership Coach
Question: You mentioned that you are a leadership/ministry coach; what exactly is that?

Answer: In short, I assist individuals and organizations with achieving their goals/visions from conception to manifestation. Although I (and the ITNLG staff) try to provide the tools and support necessary to realize your potential in God, I don’t just concentrate or focus on the goal, but stress the importance of not becoming a public success at the expense of private failure. We build the visionary as well as provide support for the vision. Contact me at dmoss@itnlg.com for a FREE consultation or for additional information.

Book Release
Question: When will copies of your book be available?

Answer: The name of the book is “The Kingdom Edge: Realizing Your Potential in God,” and is tentatively scheduled to be released Saturday, May 31, 2008. A book signing will be announced in the coming weeks.

Grace & Peace!
ITN Leadership Group Blog

Pastor Daemon S. One issue I continually have to address is clarify the difference between explanations and instructions. Instructions speak to “what” God would have us to do. God can not hold us accountable for anything he hasn’t made clear. Therefore, he is very specific and leaves no room for ambiguity. On the other hand, explanations often live in the land of faith; they include the “how, when, where, and why.” Herein lies the problem; we ask God for instructions, when in fact what we really desire is explanations.

When Jesus told Peter to join him for a walk on the lake, he simply said “come.” Jesus did not explain to Peter how the water would support his body weight. Stop wondering how the water is going to support you! If that is your focus, you will never get out of the boat. This is what faith is all about. There will be questions for which you won’t have answers. Faith does not strip away the unknown, faith enables us to walk into the unknown with the assurance our steps are being ordered.

I don’t want to suggest that God never gives explanations; only that he often uses the unknown to build up our faith and keep us focused on him… Tomorrow, I will be responding to emails and posts received over the past week. I will use Fridays to do this and to provide “coaching” tips as well. So be sure to post your questions! Grace and Peace!

Pastor Daemon S. Our potential is defined by our design; and we have been designed to manifest the likeness of Christ in the earth. With this truth in mind, I would like to address what I refer to as the “Spirit of Potential.” In short, this spirit leaves an individual satisfied with what could be, while stripping them of the conviction that it must be; and results in a perpetual state of pursuing something that is always just beyond his/her reach.

In order for our potential to be realized, it must begin with a change of thinking. As stated in the opening sentence, you don’t reach potential- you release it. Reaching leaves room for excuses; releasing means I must take ownership of what God says already exists in me. Remember, we are branches; Jesus is the vine. As long as we abide in him, the branch can only yield what is in the vine. Bearing and/or yielding fruit is not the same thing as trying to produce fruit. The former is easy; the latter is impossible.

Ephesians 4:1 exhorts us to “walk worthy of the vocation wherewith ye are called.” Who we say we are and the fruit of our lives should be in agreement. We are to be a credit to the summons to God’s service…

I would like to take a moment to thank those who have responded to our blog. Whether you posted a response or simply sent an email, we have been blessed. I would also like to encourage as many of you as possible to post your responses on the blog itself. Just as they have blessed us at ITN, I am certain they will be a blessing to others as well.

In His Service,

DSMoss

Pastor Daemon S. If you are a believer, you have been created/designed to manifest God's likeness in the earth. Now that is awesome potential! Notice I used the word designed; designed means it's already there, it just has to come forth.

We tend to limit potential to adding layers of ability, experience, excellence, knowledge, etc. through diligence and effort on our part. As a result, we improve ourselves. However, there is another aspect of potential that is every bit as important, but often overlooked- addition by subtraction. As opposed to adding levels of excellence or ability, we begin to subtract (or strip away) layers of self (flesh) until we get to the core of who we are- individuals created in the image and likeness of God and designed to manifest that likeness.

His glory can be manifested in our churches and communities, as well as in business and the marketplace. Imagine doing business with the discernment and wisdom of God! What would happen if we didn't allow flesh to get in the way of the anointing of God?

How do we get the God within to manifest? By exercising the spiritual disciplines: prayer and fasting, study and meditation, praise and worship. We don't do these things to "become" like Him; we do these things to uncover what is already there. In this regard, potential is not something we reach, but what is revealed. Be sure to visit tomorrow as we delve into the topic "The Spirit of Potential." As I enter this blog, I find myself in the midst of a "tarry;" that period of time between what God has spoken and actually seeing it manifest. Perhaps you find yourself in the same position. I exhort you, today- don't get lost in the tarry!

I have seen too many people give up on a sure word from the Lord simply because they didn't understand the concept of purposeful delays. Purposeful delays are designed to prepare you for the vision and/or to set forth (or re-evaluate) plans to carry out the vision. These two things often cause us to stumble. We can become so preoccupied with what God desires to do through us, that we stop allowing him to do a work in us. Always remember, charisma (gifts) can take you to where only character can keep you! Secondly, as far as plans are concerned, we must be flexible. Where purposes are constant, plans are subject to change. Perhaps the Lord is saying it's time to tweak what you're doing or simply choose a different path. A different path doesn't necessarily mean a different destination.

What God has spoken will come to pass; we just need to understand that He doesn't just speak to our end, he speaks during the tarry. What is God saying today? What adjustments need to be made? James 1:5 assures us that if we lack wisdom, just ask God and he will give us the answers we need. Be encouraged, the One who called you is faithful. Grace and Peace.

Pastor Daemon S. Like Peter, I have experienced mixed results. When my eyes were fixed upon Jesus, I could respond to his invitation to join him. Simply being obedient to his directive to "come," I found myself experiencing life on the water as opposed to existence on the boat.

Water-walking is the result of responding to a word from the Lord (faith), not a desire to walk on water (presumption). Let me explain. Peter did not step out of the boat until he was summoned by Jesus. Presumption says, "I will step out of the boat because I know Jesus will keep me." Faith says, "I will step out of the boat because Jesus called me." Although the difference may seem subtle, the ramifications are great. Faith keeps Jesus as Lord. Presumption makes you the "head." God honors the former, but he is not obligated to honor to the latter.

Therein lies the problem. How many times have we stepped out on presumption and called it faith? All we need to do is check our motives. What was in our heart when the decision was made? Did we want to lift him up, or ourselves? If our motives were pure and things look bad, don't worry. Like Peter, Jesus will not allow us to drown. If not, it's time to swallow a little pride and start swimming back to our boat and patiently wait on Him to call. Jesus does give us the desires of our heart, but our heart must be his. We must get back to the place where our desire is to see his desire fulfilled and not our own. Grace and Peace to all!

Pastor Daemon S. We can become so overwhelmed by what's going on around us, that we forget the One who lives within us! The psalmist encourages us to remember the sovereignty of our God and the refuge we have in Him. Be still (quiet your spirit before God- stop allowing your thoughts to be consumed by negativity), and know (recognize and understand) that I am God.

As we turn our attention from the problem to The Answer, a measure of control is restored. Instead of viewing our circumstances through the eyes of a victim, we find ourselves gaining a perspective of one seeing our situation through the eyes of a victor. It is from this vantage point that clarity comes. We move from a feeling of helplessness to being assured of a positive outcome. Not necessarily because of our ability to bring about change, but because of his ability to keep us until our change comes. Always remember; "all things work together for those who love the Lord and are called according to his purposes." Even this!

I don’t care how many means or methods Wiley Coyote uses, he never catches the Road Runner; yet we keep watching, waiting, and wondering will this be the time his plan works?

Why do we continue to subject ourselves to playing a game we know we can not possibly win? What is it about mankind that places its hopes and dreams in a system inherently flawed at best (and destructive by design)? The system of which I speak is the product of fallen man. Nothing that has its genesis in sin can possible yield an increase worthy of our desire and/or pursuit. The world as we know it is quickly coming to its climax. In like manner, the world’s system continues to unravel with each passing day.

There is a voice we hear calling from within, ever challenging us to step beyond the question “Is this all there is?” and urging us to pursue what we can not see with our natural eyes. God has placed eternity in the hearts of man. The gift of life is nothing more than a seed sown in time and harvested in eternity. As Jesus declares in the 17th chapter of the Gospel of John, “we are in this world, but not of it.” This dual existence must be mastered in order for us to become who we were created to be and fulfill what we have been called to do. The soul of man is eternal; the world in which we live is temporal. Somehow we started approaching life as if our existence is temporal, but the world is eternal. Where did this fallacy begin? How and why do we continue to perpetuate it today? Its origin can be found in Genesis; how and why this paradigm continues can be found throughout scripture.

Pastor Daemon S.
